The exterior doors and
interior shoji screens have been opened after a recent winter storm
to reveal approaching dusk and snow. The narrow garden flanks the
rear of the house, portrayed from this traditional Japanese room
setting, consisting of a 6 1/2 mat room. The tatami mats and shoji
in this portrayal are authentic in scale and proportion.
They won't be open for long. The irori fireplace is being stoked in the next room while the futons are being rolled out.
